Microwave moisture measurement module

Description

RGI 8403  is a microwave moisture sensor based on the 2.4 GHz ISM band, consisting of 2 modules (receiver and transmitter unit) with integrated front-end electronics and HF antenna, which measures the moisture of almost electrically non-conductive bulk material .

This  is a microwave moisture sensor based on the 868MHz band, consisting of 2 modules (receiver and transmitter unit) with integrated front-end electronics and HF antenna, which was specially developed for the MOCON-LKW for moisture measurement of waste paper or straw.

In  both cases, the material must be positioned between these two individual modules (e.g. on a conveyor belt).

Technique

Each  of the modules can be set both as a transmitter (TX) and a receiver (RX).

Transmitter  7406 (TX) sends a constant pattern of pre-programmed RF power on a single fixed frequency channel, which begins about 10 seconds after the device is switched on after an installed RF module has initialized, while these parameters are stored in a non-volatile EPROM.

From now on, the 7406 device repeatedly generates the values ​​of the returned signal strength indicator (RSSI signal) of its HF part, where the RSSI signal is the logarithmic value of the received RF signal and the repetition interval (at least 0.25 seconds) and the receiver frequency are constant and pre-programmable and are customer-specific parameters, while these parameters are also stored in the non-volatile EPPROM.

Application ares

Microwave  based measuring systems such as RGI 8403 are mainly used for bulk goods with inconsistent moisture distribution (interior and surface) and a particle size over 3 mm, such as lumps of coal, corn seeds, wheat, soybeans and other seed products, large ore particles, stones, etc. for use.

Important note

The  microwave module RGI 8403 can only be used in combination with the above-mentioned RGI components!
