MOCON 21 is a processor-controlled small computer for calculating the moisture in bulk goods and solids in combination with a microwave radiation source.
The controller is available in three versions:
● for moisture determination of bulk goods on conveyor belts
● for moisture determination of paper rolls on trucks
● for tobacco moisture measurement
In addition to the microwave measuring section, a distance measurement with ultrasound is used as a "light barrier"
The raw data of the microwave sensor measuring section are processed by the evaluation computer; the measurement result is the percentage moisture in the measured material.
Up to 40 calibration measurements (samples, measurement runs) with their reference values can be saved for calibration.
All inputs and outputs are galvanically isolated from the computer and equipped with reverse polarity protection.
The measured value can be output to other evaluation devices via an analog current output (0 / 4-20mA).

Moisture measurement is based on the absorption of microwaves in the material being conveyed.
Usually the absorption depends on the irradiated mass (density and thickness). Due to the molecular dipole moment, however, the microwave absorption effect of water is far greater than that of other materials.
The normal dependence of the microwave absorption on the mass of the measured material is compensated for by an occupancy level or belt scale signal.
The evaluation unit MOCON 21 allows following:
• display the current measured value (percent moisture) in%
• Output the degree of tape occupancy in%
• Output measurement data and alarm signals (optional) as well
• carry out the configuration and calibration of the measuring system.
The measurements of the microwave measuring section and one of up to two connected signals of the tape occupancy measurement (load) are continuously evaluated.
The percentage humidity is output as an analog 0 / 4-20mA signal with 10 bit accuracy (better 0.5%), whereby the scaling can be freely selected.
