As a component of radiometric measuring systems, radioactive sources that emit gamma radiation must ensure that the radioactive material is enclosed in an extremely resistant capsule, which is absolutely leak-proof, which guarantees safe and long-term use even under extreme environmental conditions.
Shields from RGI - made of steel (stainless steel), filled with lead (tungsten or both) - therefore offer the best shielding at all times, even during transport or maintenance, because the shielding or the radiation channel remain closed until the measurement is put into operation.
The shielding containers ABSxx and SH-xx are radiation source containers, which consist of a stainless steel housing filled with lead.
The corresponding radiation source - a metal capsule made of sintered radioactive material - is fixed in the radiation outlet channel of the shielding container by means of a radiator holder.
Shielding containers of the ABSxx type are used as spotlights in various applications (e.g. density, limit level).
Shielding containers of the SH-xx type are only used for radiometric belt scales due to their special design with a fan-shaped beam.
For industrial applications must be used so-called enclosed radiation sources.

This shielding must meet these requirements:
● The radiation that is still to be measured outside the container must be reduced to a value that is harmless to the operating personnel.
● The beam exit channel must be securely closable for transport, assembly and maintenance work.
● The protection of the built-in radiation capsule against mechanical damage, environmental influences and unauthorized removal must be guaranteed permanently.
